Why The Thermometer? The density of a liquid is indirectly proportional to its temperature. As the temperature increases, density decreases. Brix hydrometers are typically calibrated at 20 °C / 68 °F. To accurately assess the density of a liquid, a measurement should be taken at the temperature which the hydrometer was calibrated. When this is not possible and the temperature deviates from the 20 °C standard, corrections must be applied to the hydrometer reading. This thermometer is scaled with the appropriate temperature correction for the hydrometer reading.
